This Pinot Gris comes from two parcels: Les Lignis, with vines planted in 2004 (sand and gravel from the high terraces of the Arnon river, which settled on a Kimmeridgian limestone soil) and La Commanderie in Preuilly, with vines planted in 2007 on clayey gravel.
The juice macerated on the skins for one month in order to extract color and aromas, before going through a pneumatic press. After a slow fermentation and aging on the fine lees, it was filtered and bottled at the end of January. 1,250 cases produced.
Both generous and delicate, the nose combines the opulent scent of white flowers with those of fruits (pear, peach) and sweet spices. On the palate, the fresh attack offers delicate aromas of red fruits (redcurrant, cherry) and citrus (grapefruit), which persist in the long and generous finish. A beautifully balanced orange wine. 13% alcohol.
2020 Vintage notes: a solar vintage!
“The mild winter 2019/2020 woke up the vines really early in the season, at the end of March. Thus our young shoots were under the threat of spring frosts following this early bud break, which is also one of the consequences of the ongoing global warming. But thanks to our wind turbines that keep cold air from settling at ground level, the buds did hold out. A dry spring limited vine shoot growth and prevented downy mildew. This solar vintage, due to high temperature accumulations, turned out however to be less dry than 2019. Regular thunderstorms brought us rains which watered the vines from June to August, giving us a nice harvest, average in volume, but with a good maturity. The harvest opened up with Pinot Gris at the end of August, a first!” - Maroussia Tatin
