Calling all thirsty smurfs...CALX comes from our friend Fillipo Cassano, owner of the certified organic winery Polvanera in Puglia (the heel of Italy’s boot). Calx is the Latin word for limestone, which is unique soil here for vines, and the building blocks for the ancient Smurf-like farming houses called trulli. The limestone imprints the Primitivo grape, giving fresh and taut wines, with notes of zingy red berries and dried figs. Like all reds in the FUSO project - good with a slight chill. FUSO is our project to search for and bottle Italy’s natural and characterful daily drinkers. We work with farmers and producer friends who are committed to organic viticulture, low-intervention, and terroir-driven wines.
