The quality at Château La Galiane starts in the vineyard. The soil consists of outcroppings of fine gravel on a clay-limestone base which facilitates excellent drainage, leading to ripe, healthy fruit.
The grapes are 100% destemmed and given a short, cold pre-fermentation maceration to extract aroma and color. This phase is followed by three weeks of vinification in temperature controlled, concrete tanks: alcoholic and malolactic fermentation and maceration (cuvaison) with daily pumping over to ensure maximum extraction of supple and fresh fruit, aromas and color. The wine is assembled early in the New Year. The wine matures in barrels for two years; the casks are about 25% each new and 1-3 years of age. Fined with fresh egg whites but never filtered.
Château La Galiane is a classic Margaux, combining richly satisfying dark berry and cassis flavors and finesse. The wine is usually ready to enjoy on release but can be cellared for up to ten years. Small family properties in Bordeaux rarely export to the U.S., and this is one of the undiscovered gems in our portfolio.
